The Hyde Park Refugee Project consists of Hyde Park residents and other volunteers from Chicago’s South Side working together to resettle refugee families in our neighborhood and transition them to self-sufficiency.
Confronted by the devastating and unprecedented refugee crises in Syria and other parts of the world, members of the Hyde Park community began the Hyde Park Refugee Project to connect, mobilize, inform and engage individuals and organizations in our community to help refugee families rebuild their lives in Hyde Park. Joined by the Hyde Park & Kenwood Interfaith Council (HPKIC), whose members represent various faiths and congregations within the community, the Refugee Project was able to greatly expand its efforts.
We aim to support, empower and stand with refugees as they work to achieve self-sufficiency, self-determination and liberty and believe our efforts have the power to transform both the lives of refugees as well as the volunteers engaged in this effort.
In partnership with RefugeeOne, the largest refugee resettlement agency in Illinois, the Hyde Park Refugee Project works to:
- Find, secure and furnish housing for refugee families
- Raise funds for basic needs
- Help family members connect with employers
- Provide intensive English tutoring to help our new neighbors face the daunting challenges of transitioning to life in America
- Offer mentoring and friendship to enrich the lives of both refugees and volunteers
The Hyde Park Refugee Project is a designated 501(c)(3) organization.
